Since 18 January 2022 it has been an offence to drive or be in charge of a vehicle with more than a specified limit of drugs in your system. The legal provision is contained within this Act which amended another Act, the Road Traffic Act 1985 – introducing new sections 5AA & 5BA. A consolidated version of the amended Act is not currently online. The Department of Infrastructure signed the appointed day order (ADO) on 17 January 2022 bringing the provisions into effect the following day.
